It’s not every day that you have the opportunity to meet the Queen! I did just that last night when Kykloud joined other leading UK tech businesses at a reception hosted by The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh and The Duke of York at Buckingham Palace.
Kykloud was invited to attend Tech at The Palace – a gathering of digital entrepreneurs held at Buckingham Palace to highlight the rising contribution of tech firms in the UK economy. The reception, which was organised and attended by The Duke of York, brought together leading technology businesses – great to see a good handful were from the north east – to recognise the innovative work that is being done and the growth opportunities which exist within the sector in terms of job creation and export opportunities.
In my line of work, I’ve been behind the scenes of some pretty impressive buildings, only very recently did I venture into the ‘no access allowed’ areas of the Natural History Museum, but I never thought I would see the day when I enjoyed a reception with the Queen and members of the Royal Family inside the palace.
I thought I would be completely awe struck and become a mumbling wreck but I have to say all members of the Royal Family made us feel very at ease and had a genuine interest in the businesses we operate, asking pertinent and probing questions.
The Duke of York is a well-known supporter of the UK tech industry and is said to unashamedly promote UK technology companies in the US and recognises that the technology industry provides openings for people from all walks of life and is not reserved only for the elite. A sentiment I fully support and there is certainly much to celebrate; according to a recent survey by KPMG, last year the UK technology sector recorded its best growth performance for almost a decade.
